Master of Maintenance and Reliability Engineering

Course description

This course is designed for graduate engineers who are involved with asset management of industrial, public sector or defence systems.

Each six-point full-year unit requires on average about four hours of study per week. Students are required to attend at least one four-day residential school (maximum of two: 11-13 April 2007 and 24-27 September 2007). One residential school is held in Knoxville, Tennessee, in late August for students in North America.

Course structure

The degree comprises 48 points of coursework selected from the list below. Two entry pathways are available*: initial units as listed under Graduate Diploma in Engineering Maintenance Management (April residential school required), or units as listed under Graduate Certificate in Reliability Engineering (no initial residential school). Students articulating require a total of 72 points.

  • GEG7114 Basic quantitative skills (not if GEG7034 taken)
  • GEG7124 Understanding reliability
  • GEG7134 Advanced reliability
  • GEG7144 Reliability applications (only if GEG7114 or 7034, GEG7124, GEG7134 are taken)
  • GEG7154 Risk engineering
  • postgraduate management, computing or infrastructure management elective

Articulation and credit

Students may gain credit towards the Master of Maintenance and Reliability Engineering by successfully completing, and articulating from the Graduate Diploma in Engineering Maintenance Management with an average of 65 per cent across all eight units. Such students therefore need to complete 72 points in total to complete the masters degree. (Students entering directly into the masters program only need to complete 48 points).
