Course description

It is expected that most recruits to this course will be drawn from graduates of three-year science degrees who have been employed in the pulp and paper industry. The course may have particular appeal to graduates from developing countries.

Course structure

The course will comprise a selection of units to the value of 48 points offered for the Master of Engineering Science (Coursework and Minor Thesis) program in pulp and paper technology. Some candidates may need to undertake preliminary studies in some areas.

The unit selection for each candidate for the diploma will be arranged in consultation with academic staff of the department and must be approved by the head of the department.

Students select eight approved units from:

  • CHE5160 The pulp and paper industry
  • CHE5161 Process engineering of pulping
  • CHE5162 Unit operations of paper making
  • CHE5163 Paper production properties and use
  • CHE5164 Management and control in the pulp and paper industry
  • CHE5165 Environmental aspects of pulp and paper making
  • CHE5166 Special topics in pulp and paper
  • CHE5167 Pulp and paper laboratory
  • CHE5168 Industrial visits
