Graduate Certificate in Business Law

Course description

This course is designed to provide a sound theoretical and practical knowledge in business law and to develop an understanding of and an ability to analyse a range of legal problems arising in the practice of business law.

Course structure

(a) Students must complete two units (12 points) from the following list:

  • BTX9020 Business law
  • BTX9060 The law of employment
  • BTX9070 Labour relations law
  • BTX9150 Competition and consumer law
  • BTX9190 International trade law
  • BTX9191 Superannuation and retirement benefits
  • BTX9300 Health services law*
  • BTX9380 Banking law
  • BTX9760 Risk control and the law
  • BTX9841 Human resource management law
  • BTX9890 Law, privacy and ethics in marketing

(b) Students must complete a further two units (12 points) from:

(i) the units listed in (a), or

(ii) with the approval of the course director, students who have completed two 9000-level units, with at least a credit average in those units will be able to undertake up to two 5000-level units available within the Master of Business Law (MBL) course.

Students who achieve an overall credit average are eligible to apply for entry to the MBL. If entry to the MBL is achieved, credit will be awarded for the units completed in the graduate certificate.
