Course description

This course is designed to introduce students to the study of Australian society and culture at an advanced level. It draws on the combination of interdisciplinary courses and others which are centred in a particular discipline. The common ground is the preoccupation with Australian values and identity.

Course structure

Students undertake units to the value of 48 points at level 4 as follows:

  • COM4001 Researching and writing Australia

and at least one of:

  • AUS4010 Australian society and culture
  • AUS4025 Australia in global perspective

plus at least one approved level 4 elective unit to the value of 12 points to be chosen from the following:

  • RLM4100 Religion in Australian society
  • PLM4370 Citizenship and democracy in Australian politics
  • ENM4370 Contemporary Australian poetry and fiction
  • HYM4320 Citizens: histories of Australian citizenship
  • PLM4800 Australian national government
  • one other 12-point level 4 unit with the approval of the course coordinator

There are no alternative exit points from this course.

Articulation

Students who complete the Graduate Diploma with results of at least a credit, may apply to transfer to a relevant masters program.
