Bachelor of Paramedic Studies

Course description

This course allows suitably qualified paramedics an opportunity to upgrade their qualification to bachelor level. The course provides the necessary underpinning for professional ambulance paramedic practice.

Special requirements

Police checks

Organisations that host clinical placements may require students to have obtained a police check regarding their suitability to undertake such placements. All enrolled and prospective students are advised that they may be required to obtain and pay for a police check prior to undertaking the clinical placements in their course.

Course structure

To complete the degree conversion, ambulance paramedics require the successful completion of units totalling 48 points, Ambulance ‘ALS’ paramedics require the successful completion of units totalling 36 points and MICA paramedics require the successful completion of units totalling 24 points, all with concurrent work experience. Course requirements for interstate paramedics and Australian armed forces personnel will be determined on application

Course requirements

Students are required to complete four compulsory core units as follows:

First year
  • PAR3010 Professional issues in paramedic practice
  • PAR3020 Trends in pre-hospital care services
Second year
  • PAR3030 Ethical, legal and cultural issues
  • PAR3040 Evidence-based practice

These units will be supplemented by a minor stream of electives chosen from outside the faculty.
