Applying for a course

Prerequisites

Most undergraduate programs assume that mathematics has been studied at secondary school to a reasonable level and that the minimum requirement is a mathematics study at VCE levels 1 and 2. For Victorian students, the requirement for some undergraduate courses is VCE mathematics levels 1 and 2 and for other courses levels 3 and 4. Courses that involve computer engineering have relatively stringent prerequisites. VCE English (any) at units 3 and 4 level is a prerequisite for all courses. Students should consult the VTAC guide for the study score, which varies by course.

Unit prerequisites are listed under the course descriptions within this handbook. Students should refer to the relevant and current version of the following publications for details of the necessary entrance scores, or contact any faculty office:

  • Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) guide
  • Monash University undergraduate course guide for international students

International on-campus students

International students whose academic standard is at least equivalent to the minimum required of Australian students can apply for an undergraduate course on a full-fee basis. Full-fee international students should apply directly to the university. Applications for direct entry are available from International Admissions, Monash University, Monash agents overseas or the faculty offices. It is possible to apply for mid-year entry to most of the faculty’s undergraduate courses. For more information, ask at the faculty office or contact a Monash agent overseas.

Under the terms of a student visa, international students are required to study full-time.
