Course description

For details of this branch of engineering, refer to the entry for the Bachelor of Engineering in this handbook. For information on arts majors and minors, refer to the ‘Areas of study’ section on the Arts faculty website at www.arts.monash.edu.au/current/coursework/study_areas/.

Course structure

Students enter this branch of engineering after completion of the common first year (refer to the entry for the Bachelor of Engineering/Bachelor of Arts earlier in this section). It is recommended that students wishing to enter this branch of engineering complete ENG1030, ENG1040 and ENG1050 (and ENG1020 if no foundation unit is required) in the first year.

Course requirements

Students require a total of 252 points including those gained at level 1, of which not less than 156 points must be obtained from the engineering units listed below.

The arts component requires 96 points, consisting of a major (48 points), a minor (24 points), an additional first-year sequence (12 points) and a further 12 points of arts units.

Level 2 units of the engineering component of this program were offered from 2005. Level 3 units will be offered from 2006, and level 4 units from 2007. This branch ceased intake into level 2 at the end of 2005. Students seeking to combine arts with mechatronics engineering should consider applying for a course transfer into the new Bachelor of Mechatronics Engineering/Bachelor of Arts double-degree program.
