Course description

This course provides students with the opportunity to pursue in-depth study in the discipline of Australian Indigenous studies while completing a bachelors degree or double degree in other fields. Students develop an understanding of the contemporary and historical studies about Indigenous Australian peoples and their experiences. Areas of study include kinship, political and linguistic systems in urban and remote societies, colonisations on Indigenous societies and economies, and the effects of government policies on organisations and communities. Issues surrounding constructions and representations of Aborigines, 'Aboriginalism' and responses to these by Indigenous Australians are also discussed.
