Course description

This course offers a program of education in the discipline and practice of multimedia design or multimedia design research and provides students with the opportunity to intensively study an area of specialisation of their own choice.

Course objectives

Students who complete the honours degree of the Bachelor of Multimedia Design will, in addition to having met the objectives of the pass degree, have:

an understanding of research concepts, strategies and methods and the skills to apply them in the field of multidisciplinary design, and
further developed their expertise and who are capable of achieving advanced standing in their profession.

Course structure

The course consists of the following:

(a) Multimedia design studio projects (30 points)

(b) Either preparation for the higher degree strand (12 points):

Research methods in art and design, and
Research seminar in art and design

or the professional practice strand (12 points):

Design research methods and seminar, and
Professional practice and business planning for design

(d) Occupational health and safety (0 points), if not previously passed or exempted.

Fourth year (48 points)

First semester

MMD4107 Major project (multimedia design studio) part 1 (12 points)
OHS1000 Introduction to art and design health and safety (0 points) -- if required
Either TAD4503 Research methods in art and design (6 points)
or TAD4523 Design research methods and seminar (6 points)
Elective (6 points)

Second semester

MMD4108 Major project (multimedia design studio) part 2 (18 points)
Either TAD4504 Research seminar in art and design (6 points)
or PPR4102 Professional practice and business planning for design (6 points)
