Course description

The course aims to prepare students to practise as advanced care practitioners in aged care, be able to demonstrate an ability to apply advanced problem-solving skills to patient care, and be equipped to respond to the health care needs of older persons in increasingly diverse and complex health care environments.

Entry requirements

Applicants would normally have a degree in nursing or a related discipline; registration with Nurses Board of Victoria (Division 1 or eligible for registration); and at least one year of nursing experience. Experience in the relevant area of practice is desirable.

Course structure

The course consists of three core units and one elective.

Core units

  • NUR6201 Gerontological nursing practice (core)
  • NUR9203 Palliative care nursing practice (core)

plus one of the following:

  • GHS9841 Research methods and issues (core), or
  • NUR5703 Advanced pathophysiology and health assessment (core)

Electives

One of the following:

  • GHS9850 Nursing practice and management
  • NUR9201 Case management and care integration
  • NUR9204 Education in nursing

Assessment

Assessment includes assignments, examination, fieldwork report, literature review and contribution to computer conferencing activities.
