Course description

This course, offered by the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, provides a broad framework from which to manage clinical health care systems by attention to human resource, financial, information, medico-legal, political, cultural, economic, ethical, industrial, technological and psychosocial issues. This course articulates with the Master of Health Services Management or the Master of Public Health. Students are required to complete compulsory block requirements each semester.

Entry requirements

Applicants must have an undergraduate degree in an appropriate discipline and relevant professional experience. The department will individually assess applications from students without a three-year degree. In such instances, the department may require completion of the Graduate Certificate in Health Services Management before enrolling in the graduate diploma.

Course structure

Students are required to complete six core units and one elective option.

  • MPH2067 Principles of health care quality improvement
  • MPH2068 Financial issues in health care management
  • MPH2069 Health systems policy
  • MPH2072 Reform and development of health services

  • ECX9720 Introduction to epidemiology and biostatistics
  • One elective (selected from DEPM postgraduate units)

Assessment

Assessment includes web-based tasks, written assignments, examinations, and individual and group presentations.
