Postgraduate Certificate of Education (Bilingual/Immersion Education)

Course description

This course is designed for teachers and school administrators involved in implementing a content-based immersion program in their school and to assist them to further their understanding of the processes of second language teaching and learning in such a context. The course is offered on a cohort basis only.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for admission to the course, applicants must hold either:

  • an approved three-year bachelors degree in a relevant field with a credit average in the final year, or
  • an approved three-year bachelors degree (or equivalent) and a fourth year of study, or
  • an approved four-year bachelors degree, or
  • qualifications or experience considered by the faculty board to be equivalent to, or a satisfactory substitute for, the above awards.

It would be advantageous for applicants to also have experience and/or qualifications as teachers or educational administrators.

Course structure

The course consists of 24 points of study. Students will complete the following two 12-point units:

  • EDF6201 Theory and principles of bilingual/immersion education
  • EDF6202 Establishing, maintaining and evaluating an immersion program

Articulation

Candidates who successfully complete the Postgraduate Certificate of Education (Bilingual/Immersion Education) may complete a postgraduate diploma or a masters degree by undertaking a further two or four units respectively.
