Doctor of Business Administration

Course description

This is a professional doctorate combining coursework and research. It is ideal for students who wish to research their area of expertise in depth, but who do not wish to do this using the methodology of a single research topic.

Entry requirements

Applicants need to have completed:

  • a masters degree by coursework in any field of business administration with first class honours or second class honours division A, at Monash or an equivalent institution, or
  • a masters by research degree.

Applicants also need to satisfy the following admission requirements:

  • completed at least one unit in a quantitative area at either graduate or undergraduate level, and
  • at least two years of professional experience in any field of business administration.

All students will be required to complete four units of coursework and a research component of 60,000 words. Intake: March and July.

Course structure

(a) Students must complete four core units:

  • DBA6010 Qualitative business research methods
  • DBA6000 Quantitative business research methods
  • DBA6008 Current issues in business
  • DBA6007 DBA seminar

(b) Students must complete the following research components:

(i) Research component - stage 1 (first year).

(ii) Research component - stage 2 (second year).

(iii) Research component - stage 3 (third year).

Fees

Australian students and permanent residents will be required to pay full fees for the first year of candidature. Subject to satisfactory completion of the probationary (full-time equivalent) year of the DBA, students may be eligible for an RTS-funded place, however there are only a limited number of these available each year and domestic students may be liable for fees for the duration of candidature.

International students will be required to pay full fees. However, students will be eligible to apply for a scholarship to cover fees, such as an International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) or a Monash International Research Scholarship (MIPRS).

Applicants for the degree of Doctor of Business Administration should refer to the website at www.research.buseco.edu.au for an application form. Preliminary inquiries to discuss the area of specialisation should be directed to the higher degree by research coordinator of the appropriate department.
