The course extends the knowledge, research and writing skills of people already working in, or seeking employment in, organisations involved in international or sustainable development. Entry requirementsEntry requirements are either (a) an honours degree in a relevant discipline with a minimum H2A grade or equivalent, or (b) have undertaken significant research at a postgraduate level with a minimum grade of distinction for the research component. Professionals with an undergraduate degree and substantial work experience in international development may be considered for the course but may be required to undertake a 12-point independent research unit as a qualifying requirement before embarking on the major research project, or (c) applicants who do not have prior research experience but have completed a postgraduate degree or diploma with grades of distinction and above in three-quarters of their units may be admitted to the 66% research degree (these applicants will need to enrol for a 12-point supervised research project as part of the required 24 points of coursework). Course structureCandidates are required to successfully complete a total of 24 points of coursework units, including 12 points of international development units at fifth-year level; and 12 points of other level 5 units approved by the international development program coordinators. Candidates also complete a 66% thesis of 20,000 to 25,000 words. Research topics are determined in consultation with the program coordinators and research supervisors. Minimum pass gradeThe minimum pass grade for units in the Master of Arts in International Development is 60 C, ie a grade of credit or above is required in every unit and for the thesis.
