Candidates will develop specific vocational outcomes in one or more of the following fields; musicology, ethnomusicology and world music, composition, music education and pedagogy, contemporary m music and Australian music. In addition, candidates will acquire a range of research methods and techniques specific to music. They will develop the capacity for critical reflection and informed assessment in the area(s) of their musical specialisation. Entry requirementsA bachelors degree in any discipline with at least a credit average in the final year, or a bachelors pass degree with demonstrable professional experience at senior level in music or a music-related discipline. Such applicants will need to supply a CV, a 1000-word statement and the names of two professional referees. In addition, all students must meet the faculty’s English proficiency requirements. Course structureStudents complete 72 points consisting of one core and three electives at level four, and one core and one elective at level 5. In addition, full-time candidates are required to attend a minimum of 10 of the school’s postgraduate seminars during each year of their candidature. Part-time candidates are required to attend a minimum of five seminars per year. Level 4 core unit

Minimum pass gradeTo graduate with the Master of Music Studies, students must gain a credit (60 C) or above in core units and a minimum credit average overall. Exit pointsStudents who have completed 24 points of the Master of Music Studies may apply to exit with a Graduate Certificate of Arts. Students who have completed 48 points of the Master of Music Studies may apply to exit with a Graduate Diploma in Music Studies.
