Following completion of the requirements for the Bachelor of Pharmacy
course, graduates must complete a period of practical training (`traineeship')
and pass the registration examination conducted by the Pharmacy Board of
Victoria to be eligible for registration as a pharmacist.
This period of practical training must be regarded as an integral part of a
five-year program leading to registration as a pharmacist. The period of
practical training provides for the graduate to obtain practical experience
under supervision of the many aspects of clinical pharmacy and applied
therapeutics.
Note that the Pharmacy Board of Victoria must approve both the pharmacy
premises in which the practical training is to take place and the preceptor
responsible for the conduct of the training prior to the commencement of the

The Pharmacy Board of Victoria is a statutory authority constituted by an Act
of Parliament and responsible to the Victorian State Parliament through the
Minister for Health. The board meets and has its administrative offices at 381
Royal Parade, Parkville.
The board's role is to act in the public interest. Among its many functions, it
approves the prescribed units to be studied by students undertaking the
pharmacy course, registers pharmacists, supervises the practical training of
students and pre-registrants including the registration of articles of
traineeship, approves preceptors and premises for practical training, issues
students' training record books and conducts the registration examination.
