Course description

The course provides a comprehensive and balanced education appropriate for careers in all aspects of the music industry. In addition to learning practical skills, students will be exposed to the historical, creative, technical and cultural aspects of music.

Course requirements

Students must complete a major in performance or composition and a minor in performance and a major in one other stream, ie composition, musicology or ethnomusicology.

Performance major

Students complete:
(a) a performance major (54 points)
(b) a second music major in one of composition or musicology/ethnomusicology (54 points)
(c) a performance minor (24 points)
(d) another first-year-level sequence (12 points)
(e) a minimum of 36 points at third-year level.

Composition major

Students complete:
(a) a composition major (54 points)
(b) a combined major sequence in composition and musicology (54 points)
(c) a performance minor (24 points)
(d) another first-year-level sequence (12 points)
(e) a minimum of 36 points at third-year level.
Note that no more than 10 units (60 points) are to be completed at a first-year level. Students have a maximum of eight years to complete this course.
