Graduate courses and awards

Graduate Certificate in Science Studies (GradCertScStud)

On-campus (Clayton; Gippsland), off-campus (Gippsland)

A one-semester (full-time) or up to two years (part-time) coursework program that enables students with an existing undergraduate degree in any discipline to obtain a minor undergraduate sequence of specialist training in a science discipline without having to undertake a complete Bachelor of Science degree. This course is currently not available outside Australia or to international students.

Graduate Certificate in Mathematical Studies (GradCertMathStudies)

Off-campus (Clayton; Gippsland)

A two-year (part-time) coursework program that enables registered secondary teachers (or nearing completion of an education qualification) the opportunity to develop mathematics discipline-based knowledge, competencies, skills and attitudes to teach mathematics at secondary school level.

Graduate Diploma in Science (GradDipSc)

On-campus (Clayton; Gippsland), off-campus (Gippsland)

A one-year (full-time) or up to three years (part-time) coursework program that enables students with an existing undergraduate degree in any discipline to obtain a major undergraduate sequence of specialist training in a science discipline without having to undertake a complete Bachelor of Science degree. This course is currently not available outside Australia or to international students.

Master of Science (MSc) - by coursework and research (minor thesis)

On-campus (Clayton; Gippsland)

A research and coursework-based program primarily aimed at further training for Bachelor of Science with honours graduates. Coursework/minor thesis programs are available in the following areas: geology, geophysics, mathematics, meteorology, and statistics.

Master of Science Preliminary

On-campus (Clayton; Gippsland)

A qualifying program combining research and coursework for candidates seeking admission to further studies at masters (or PhD) level. This is not a formal qualification and candidates cannot graduate from this program.

Master of Science (MSc) - by research

On-campus (Clayton; Gippsland)

A research-based program primarily aimed at further training for Bachelor of Science with honours graduates. Research may be undertaken within all schools of the faculty, the School of Geography and Environmental Science in the Faculty of Arts, and the Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC).

Master of Philosophy (MPhil)

On-campus (Clayton; Gippsland), external mode

An extensive research-based program offering further training primarily for Bachelor of Science with honours graduates.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

On-campus (Clayton; Gippsland), external mode

An extensive research-based program offering further training primarily for Bachelor of Science with honours graduates.

Doctor of Science (DSc)

A higher doctorate degree that may be awarded on the recommendation of the faculty for published work that is considered to be a distinguished contribution to knowledge in a particular field.
