This course, offered by the School of Rural Health, aims to prepare rural health care practitioners for positions of leadership and research, clinical practice, teaching and management, and enhance career options of rural health care practitioners from various disciplines.
Candidates are selected on the basis of academic and professional merit. Special consideration is given to candidates who hold current registration in a relevant health discipline and who are working in rural areas or are preparing for a career in rural practice. Candidates must have a minimum of a pass bachelors degree or a qualification deemed equivalent and a minimum period of one year's relevant clinical experience.
Access to computer facilities and modem is essential. Residential attendance is not required.
The course comprises 72 credit points and has been structured as a coursework degree or a coursework and minor thesis or clinical practice report award. Students undertaking the coursework masters must complete four core units and eight elective units. Students undertaking the coursework and minor thesis or clinical practice report degree must complete four core units, two electives, a 12-point research unit and a 24-point minor thesis or project. Elective units may be taken from other faculties/departments, provided they are of the appropriate postgraduate level and approved by the course coordinator.
