Information Technology

Professional Certificate in Information Technology

Course code: 3315 + Off-campus (Gippsland) + Australian residents - 2005 annual fees: TBC + International students - 2005 annual fees: $10,200, or $2550 per six-point unit + Course leader: Dr Kai Ming Ting

This course has been developed in response to industry and university needs to facilitate access to information technology professional graduate diploma programs and to facilitate access by people with no or little previous university study but with appropriate relevant industry experience.

On successful completion, the student will have demonstrated

Entry requirements

Admission is only available to people with appropriate, relevant information technology work experience. Specifically, applicants must have four or more years of work experience involved in information technology, information systems or information management activities at or above either a project, management or technical level.
This certificate is intended to lead to a professional, coursework graduate diploma program. Information industry research and development tasks such as the design and implementation of information systems, information technologies or information management procedures will be appropriately recognised in the articulation process. In order to gain entry to the university's graduate programs from this professional certificate, students must attain a credit average in their studies in this certificate. Students who wish to use the professional certificate to articulate into professional graduate awards are advised to seek advice from the appropriate course leaders as to selection of units within the professional certificate.

Advanced standing for previous studies

Prior work experience is recognised for the purposes of gaining entry to the program only. Except for appropriate units studied `not for degree', prior university or even postgraduate study will not gain credit.
The faculty offers graduate, postgraduate and masters-level awards that will better suit graduates in that they allow students
to study the same range of units and can grant credit for studies partially
completed.

Course length

The course comprises four units. Typically, students undertake two units per semester for part-time mode, or four units per semester for full-time mode.
