Graduate Diploma in Computing

Course code: 1747 + Off-campus (Gippsland) + Australian residents - 2005 annual fees: TBC + International students - 2005 annual fees $20,400, or $2550 per six-point unit + Course director: Dr Kai Ming Ting

The course is designed for those with tertiary qualifications in any discipline who wish to gain a first qualification in information technology. It aims to provide students with recognised knowledge and skills in computer programming, information systems and computer technology, and with practical knowledge of computer hardware and software that can be put to immediate use. It also aims to allow students to keep pace with new developments and assist them in becoming trained professionals in the field of commercial computing.

Entry requirements

The normal entry requirement is the equivalent of an Australian bachelors degree or diploma, or satisfactory completion of the Graduate Certificate in Information Technology offered by off-campus learning from the Gippsland campus. Students entering the course with the graduate certificate are given credit for the four units completed in that course.
Special entry requirements also exist where, in any one year, up to 10 per cent of admissions made may be granted to applicants who do not meet the above entrance requirements. Such admissions will be subject to the approval of the board of the Faculty of Information Technology, and candidates will be required to satisfy the following criteria: (i) at least two years in total, of tertiary-level courses and/or industry-level course assessed as being at tertiary level; (ii) at least two years of relevant work experience.

Course structure

The course is normally completed over two years and consists of eight units covering computer programming, software design, information technology and information systems with a project in the final year.

Professional recognition

The Graduate Diploma in Computing degree meets the professional-level membership requirements of the Australian Computer Society.
