Postgraduate Certificate of Education - general course option

Course code: 3205 + Off-campus (Clayton) + Course coordinator: Dr Rui Yang (telephone +61 3 9905 2819 for initial inquiries) + Limited Commonwealth-supported (HECS) places available + When Commonwealth-supported places have been allocated, full-fees apply per course: $5700 in 2004 (Australian residents); $8300 for 2005 (international students)

The course is designed for students wishing to pursue their studies at postgraduate level from across a broad range of areas.

Entry requirements

Applicants require:

an undergraduate degree, and
a fourth-year of study such as an honours degree, graduate diploma or graduate bachelors degree recognised by the faculty, or
other qualifications or experience considered by the faculty to be equivalent to or a satisfactory substitute for the above awards.

Advanced standing for previous studies

Applicants contemplating admission to this course may seek formal credit or recognition of prior learning. Applicants should apply for credit/RPL prior to enrolment. The Faculty of Education considers each application on its merit within the context of the faculty guidelines on credit transfer. Further information may be sought from the Faculty of Education, Clayton campus.

Course length/workload required

The course requires a minimum of one semester of full-time study and no more than two years of part-time study. Each of the units is one semester in length. The expected number of hours per week for a part-time student is 24.

Course structure

The course comprises 24 credit points of study. Students will complete two 12-point units selected from the units offered within the postgraduate coursework studies programs and approved by the course coordinator.

Candidates who successfully complete the Postgraduate Certificate of Education may complete a postgraduate diploma or a masters degree by undertaking a further two or four units respectively.

Assessment

All units are assessed by a combination of tasks, which may include examinations, assignments and other set tasks.
