Graduate Certificate of Education (Professional Development Studies)

This is a flexible program offered to allow professional educators to upgrade their qualifications. It is also offered to non-tertiary-qualified applicants with substantial professional experience who may use it as an entry to further graduate and postgraduate study. Such students will be required to achieve specified minimum grade levels prior to their proceeding to further graduate or postgraduate study.

Entry requirements

Admission to this course will be open to applicants who possess a degree or diploma or who have equivalent professional/commercial experience and who are qualified educators or who have suitably acceptable experience in a related field.

Advanced standing for previous studies

Applicants contemplating admission to this course may seek formal credit or recognition of prior learning. Applicants should apply for credit/RPL prior to enrolment. The Faculty of Education considers each application on its merit within the context of the faculty guidelines on credit transfer. Course length/workload required

The course is equivalent to 24 credit points of study and is normally completed over one year of part-time study by off-campus learning. Study modes will vary according to the needs of program components. The expected number of hours per week for a part-time student is 24.

Course structure

The course comprises 24 points of study. These are normally completed by the student undertaking four six-credit-point units.

This qualification is designed to be very flexible and will permit a wide range of studies and activities in professional development to be drawn together, including credit for non-award programs, workplace research, formal units of study and supervised independent study as part of a `recognition of prior learning' program. There are several recommended pathways through this course, and applicants can choose from the following:
