Faculty Certificate in Family-Centred Practice

Course code: 3066 + Off-campus (Gippsland) + Full-fee-paying course: local student course fee $5000 (2005)

On successful completion of this course, students will have enhanced their professional knowledge, skills and values so as to perform competently in the complex field of family centred-practice; will demonstrate advanced practice and conceptual skills to augment their contribution to the field, to their communities and to society; gained a critical understanding of the relationship between family and the social conditions impacting on families and individuals; and enhanced their understanding in the context of use of self, personal qualities, resources, style and family of origin influences in their practice.

Entry requirements

Students must have a three-year degree in social work, social and community welfare, psychology or an allied field, together with current employment working with families in the human services area. Mid-year entry is not normally available in this course. Students who do not meet the above criteria may be accepted into the faculty certificate provided they hold a Diploma of Social and Community Welfare or its equivalent, or hold a senior position in the human services and have at least five years of experience in the human services sector.

Advanced standing for previous studies

No credit provision for this certificate.

Special requirements

Access to a PC will be required.

Compulsory attendance requirements on-campus

Each semester-long unit will have a two-day compulsory residential school.

Course structure

The course will consist of two 12-point units, taken over one year.

Assessment

A combination of written assignments and videotaped interviews produced by students.
