The double degree of four years duration gives recognition to the needs of students who wish to complete both a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Computer Science degree. Graduates will have the combined talents of a computer technologist as well as having highly developed verbal, communication and visual skills. Thus, this degree will give graduates an edge in a wide range of employment opportunities related to both information technology and arts, humanities or social sciences.
Refer to `Entry requirements' under `Arts regulations and definitions' in the Arts faculty entry. In addition to the standard entry requirements, applicants must achieve a study score of at least 20 in Mathematical Methods units 3 and 4.
To complete this course in four years, students must undertake a
workload of between 48 and 54 points per year full-time. A candidate for the
double degree must complete a total of 204 points, comprising a 96 points arts
component and a 108 points computer science component, subject to the following
requirements:
(a) The 96 arts points (studies drawn from disciplines offered by schools in
the Faculty of Arts) must consist of EITHER a major, a minor, another
first-year sequence and a further 12 points OR two majors.
(b) The 108 points computer science component must include 96 points of
computer science and 12 points of first-year-level mathematics.
(c) The 96 points of computer science must include 60 points of core units and
36 points of computer science electives comprising no more than 12 points of
level 1 electives and no less than 12 points of level 3 electives. For a list
of core units and electives, see the entry for the Bachelor of Computer Science
earlier in this section.
(d) Students cannot graduate from either degree until they
have satisfied the above requirements and successfully completed studies to the
value of 144 points. Students undertaking the above double-degree program are
permitted to count up to 48 points of the other faculty's component towards
those 144 points.
Students must also complete at least 36 points at
third-year level to meet Bachelor of Arts requirements.
