General course information

The Bachelor of Business and Commerce/Advanced Diploma of Business (Accounting) double-award program is vocationally oriented and aims to equip graduates for employment in a wide range of occupations in industry and commerce, small business, professional accounting, insurance, banking and finance, teaching and in government and semi-government enterprises.
The Bachelor of Business and Commerce/Advanced Diploma of Business (Accounting) offers students the opportunity to graduate with two separate awards, a Bachelor of Business and Commerce from Monash University and an Advanced Diploma of Business (Accounting) from the Central Gippsland Institute of TAFE.
The Bachelor of Business and Commerce is the link between the overseas offerings of the faculty and the on-shore program taught across the Berwick, Gippsland and Peninsula campuses. The course is designed to provide maximum flexibility and to allow depth and breadth in the study of the major business and commerce discipline areas. Its structure provides the capacity to tailor applications and focus in different contexts and different environments while ensuring knowledge of the theory, principles and core elements in the relevant discipline areas.

Majors and other studies in the degree

Students must complete a major in one of the following disciplines taught by the faculty: accounting, business law (by off-campus learning only), economics, electronic business, human resource management, international business (by off-campus learning only), management and marketing.
Other studies may be drawn from any of the disciplines taught on the Gippsland campus by the Faculty of Business and Economics. These other studies can form a professional specialisation in one of the following areas: professional accounting, finance, information technology, human resource, international management, services management, tourism management and international marketing and commerce.

Advanced standing

Students will receive the following eight units of advanced standing on the basis of successfully completing the TAFE Advanced Diploma of Business (Accounting):

* A core unit in the Bachelor of Business and Commerce.

Course structure*

The Bachelor of Business and Commerce/Advanced Diploma of Business (Accounting) will require students to undertake a mix of Bachelor of Business and Commerce units and Advance Diploma of Business (Accounting) units.

The degree requirements are:
(a) Completion of six compulsory units:

(b) A major of at least eight units (48 credit points) in a discipline from the faculty with at least two units (12 credit points) at each of second and third-year levels. All units taken as part of the major are limited to units taught by departments of the faculty on the campus delivering this program.
(c) Completion of the Central Gippsland Institute of TAFE requirements for the Advanced Diploma of Business (Accounting) which provides eight units of advanced standing (48 credit points).
(d) A minimum of six third-year-level units (36 credit points), of which at least four (24 credit points) must be from those offered by the faculty on the campus delivering this program.
(e) A maximum of eight first-year-level units (48 credit points)
(f) An option to include a maximum of six units (36 credit points) in disciplines taught by other campuses or other Monash faculties

(g) At least four non-compulsory units (24 credit points) must be outside the main field of study.
