The Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Economics double degree provides a professional education in the disciplines of economics or econometrics and business statistics, with a strong emphasis on developing analytical skills It enables students to include in their studies a range of social science and humanities disciplines.
Students must complete a major specialisation in either economics
or econometrics and business statistics. All units taken as part of the major
specialisation are limited to units taught by departments of the faculty on the
Clayton campus (ie the third character of the unit code is C).
Other studies may be drawn from any of the disciplines taught on the Clayton
campus by the Faculty of Business and Economics.
Students must also complete a major sequence, a minor sequence, and a third
first-year sequence from the units offered in the Faculty of Arts degree.
All units studied must be from the Faculty of Business and Economics (Clayton)
and the Faculty of Arts.
The degree requirements are:
(a) Students must complete 16 units (96 credit points) from the Faculty of
Business and Economics (Clayton) as follows:
(i) Ten compulsory units (60 credit points):
Students wishing
to take first-year units other than those on the above list are able to
undertake the second-year versions of the appropriate number of compulsory
units. First-year students normally may not take a second-year unit until at
least four first-year units have been completed successfully.
(ii) Either:
All units taken as part of the
major specialisation must be taught by departments of the faculty on the
Clayton campus (ie the third character of the unit code is C).
(iii) A maximum of eight first-year-level units (48 credit points).
(iv) A minimum of four third-year-level units (24 credit points) must be from
those offered by the faculty on the campus delivering this program.
(b) Students must complete 16 units (96 credit points) from the Faculty of Arts
as follows:
(i) One major sequence of eight units (48 credit points).
(ii) One minor sequence of four units (24 credit points).
(iii) A third first-year sequence (12 credit points) from units offered in the
Bachelor of Arts degree.
(iv) A minimum of four third-year-level units (24 credit points).
(c) Students must also satisfy the following degree regulations:
(i) A total of 32 units (192 credit points).
(ii) Overall, a maximum of 14 units (84 credit points) of
first-year-level units.
The degree must be completed in a maximum of 10 years of study.
Students should have their program of study approved by the course coordinator
or the course coordinator's nominee prior to commencement of the relevant year.
