General course information

The Bachelor of Business and Commerce/Bachelor of Communication program offers students the opportunity to graduate with two separate degrees - a Bachelor of Business and Commerce degree and a Bachelor of Communication degree.

Majors and other studies in the degree

Students must complete a major in one of the following disciplines taught by the faculty: accounting, e-business, economics, human resource management, management, marketing, marketing communication, public relations or tourism.
Other studies may be drawn from any of the disciplines taught on the Berwick campus by the Faculty of Business and Economics. These other studies can form a professional specialisation in one of the following areas: professional accounting, management, travel and tourism, public relations, marketing and marketing communication. They can also, in some cases, form a second major in a business discipline.

Course structure

The degree requirements are:
(a) Students must complete 16 units (96 credit points) from the Faculty of Business and Economics as follows:
(i) Six compulsory units (36 credit points):

(ii) A major of at least eight units (48 credit points) in a discipline from the faculty with at least two units (12 credit points) at each of second and third-year levels. All units taken as part of the major are limited to units taught by departments of the faculty on the campus delivering this program.
(iii) A maximum of eight first-year-level units (48 credit points).
(iv) A minimum of four units (24 credit points) at third-year level from those offered by the campus delivering this program.
(b) Students must complete 16 units (96 credit points) from the Faculty of Arts as follows:
(i) Two compulsory units (12 credit points):

(ii) An eight unit (48 credit point) major:

(iii) A four unit (24 credit point) arts minor sequence.
(iv) Two elective units (12 credit points) from the Faculty of Arts.
(c) Students must also satisfy the following double degree regulations:
(i) A total of 32 units (192 credit points) over a maximum of 10 years.
(ii) Overall, a maximum of 14 units (84 credit points) of first-year-level units.
(iii) A minimum of six units (36 credit points) at each of second and third year level.

Progression to further studies

Completion of the Bachelor of Business and Commerce/Bachelor of Communication will enable progression to an honours year and a variety of postgraduate courses either at Monash or other Australian or overseas universities. Details of specific postgraduate courses are available on inquiry from the faculty.
