The Bachelor of Creative Arts is a broad-based degree in the practice and theory of the creative arts. The course involves studies in a range of areas, which vary depending on the campus of enrolment. These areas are:
The course also provides students with a broad knowledge and understanding of the critical, cultural, socio-economic and management contexts of creative arts, design and media practices in contemporary discourse and society.
The Bachelor of Creative Arts consists of a range of studies within the following groups:
The following areas of study span the three-year Bachelor of Creative Arts
These studies inform students about creative arts industries, organisations and participants and introduce them to aesthetic issues, organisational issues and critical writing about the creative arts.
Practical studio units which either focus on a single studio discipline chosen from the range offered within the Faculty of Art and Design, or a broad-based program of two to four creative arts and media studies disciplines, selected from such areas as:
This project enables students to draw together the various strands of knowledge and skills attained within the course through the production of either a theory or studio project at third-year level
Units are selected from a range covering theoretical, contextual, critical, and cultural aspects of the creative arts and media.
A range of elective units is available to support the interdisciplinary nature of the course and to allow students to pursue their individual interests. Electives may be chosen from within the Faculty of Art and Design, or from elsewhere in the university. Typical electives may include studio units such as painting, drawing, printmedia, sculpture or digital processes. Typical theory electives may include aesthetics, criticism, discourse in contemporary design, ornament, Asian and western art or cultural strategy. Students studying at the Gippsland campus can choose electives from the Faculty of Arts such as media studies, screen theory or creative writing.
