Honours degree of Bachelor of Formulation Science

The prerequisite for entry to the honours year is a bachelor's degree in formulation science or other related field with an average overall credit grade or higher in the final year of the course, or equivalent qualifications and experience deemed by the faculty board to be suitable preparation for the candidate's proposed field of study.

Course structure

The honours degrees consist of 20 per cent coursework and 80 per cent supervised research undertaken in any of the faculty's departments.

The coursework includes an induction program, topics applicable to the research interests of the student and a review of a topic not related to the student's research project. The supervised research project can be based in any area that falls within the research interests of the faculty, and will be assessed on the basis of oral presentations (background to the project and the results obtained), and a written thesis incorporating a literature review. With permission of the faculty's Graduate Studies Committee, it may be possible to undertake a portion of the research at an external location (a hospital, industrial laboratory, etc). If a substantial portion of the research work is to be carried out in an external institution, the Graduate Studies Committee might require someone within that institution to act as an associate supervisor. The faculty supervisor is responsible for the overall research program at an academic level.
