The degree of Doctor of Medicine shall be awarded for an original contribution of merit adding to the knowledge and understanding of any unit with which the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences is directly concerned. The degree may be awarded on the basis of a thesis or on the basis of published works.
The degree incurs a fee of $3700, payable at the time of submission of the thesis/published works.
A candidate for the degree of Doctor of Medicine shall:
(a) not less than five years previously to an application for admission to
candidature have qualified for the degree of Bachelor of Medicine at this
university or Bachelor of Medicine in another university recognised by the
faculty board and, unless the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences
resolves otherwise, have held an appointment with a department of the
university for a period of not less than two years, and
(b) have been substantially engaged, during the interval since qualifying for the degree of bachelor, in the practice and study of medicine or in scientific work which, in the opinion of the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences, is relevant to the practice of medicine.
