The Graduate Diploma of Nursing (Critical Care), offered by the School of Nursing, prepares nurses for practice in the dynamic, technological and multidisciplinary environment of critical care. In collaboration with relevant health care agencies, the course responds to industry needs for highly educated critical care nurse clinicians in metropolitan, regional and rural hospitals. Clinical practice is included in the course and takes place in a variety of settings throughout metropolitan and south-eastern Victoria.
Applicants would normally have a degree in nursing or a related discipline; registration with the Nurses Board of Victoria (Division 1 or eligible for registration); and at least one year of professional clinical experience. Special entry may be available.
Students will be required to undertake two elective units and six specialist units, for a total of eight units. Students may enrol full-time and complete the course in one year. Alternatively, in a part-time enrolment, students will normally complete the course in two years. Units are scheduled in a manner that enables students to undertake part-time employment.
