Master of Business Systems Professional

The Master of Business Systems Professional is an expanded version of the existing Master of Business Systems (Coursework). This course requires compulsory foundation IT studies in business systems analysis, design and implementation, including database management and networks, and provides scope for specialisation in both the management and technical aspects of business systems.

Entry requirements

The normal entry requirement is a first degree that is recognised as equivalent to an Australian bachelors degree. Candidates without formal tertiary qualifications can enter via the Professional Certificate in Information Technology or Executive Certificate in Information Technology.

Course structure

To graduate from the MBusSys Professional, students must complete 16 units (96 points) of graduate-level study including four units (24 points) of compulsory foundation units. A minimum of 12 units (72 points) must be completed from approved business systems units. To emphasise the professional nature of the course, students will be required to complete at least two coherent four-unit specialisations or one eight-unit advanced specialisation from within the school. Up to four units (24 points) can be taken from outside the School of Business Systems.

In addition to the business modelling specialisation, students select four other units from the business modelling specialisation, which must include the following units (if not already completed):

Operations management systems

Four units (24 points) selected from:

Business systems project

Students complete the following units:

Electives

Electives units must be level 4 or above and may be selected from any school in the university.
No more than 18 points may be taken from outside the Faculty of Information Technology at Monash University.
Note that units appearing above in multiple specialisations may be counted only once, as part of a single specialisation.
Units that form part of a specialisation are also available individually as electives.
