Course code: 0010 + Off-campus learning only (Clayton campus based) + Mid-year entry available + Course coordinator: Julie Bradshaw
This course deals with the basics of linguistics, and may be taken for its own sake or by way of preparation for the study of the applications of linguistics to professional and social contexts covered in the Master of Applied Linguistics program. The course is normally taken over one year full-time or two years part-time. Students require a credit average in the postgraduate diploma program to transfer to the Master of Applied Linguistics by coursework.
Applicants should hold a bachelors degree with at least a credit average in the final year, or a bachelors pass degree with demonstrable professional experience at a senior level in a relevant area. (Such applicants will need to supply a CV, a 1000-word statement and the names of two professional referees). Prior learning may be recognised at the discretion of the course coordinator.
The Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Linguistics normally consists of three (but a minimum of two) core units and one (or a maximum of two) elective unit (12 points per unit; 48 points in total).
Alternative elective may be approved in special cases.
