Drama and theatre studies

Director: Peter Fitzpatrick + Graduate coordinator: Rachel Fensham

Drama and theatre studies is a discipline that spans a wide range of research interests, characterised by an intersection of textual or theoretical enquiry with performance (as an exploratory activity, and/or a subject for documentation and analysis).

Research degrees

Candidates in drama and theatre studies may enrol for the degrees of PhD and MA by research only. Supervision is available in many areas of study, but particular research strengths of the centre include Australian theatre, past and present; feminist performance; musical and cross-genre theatre; Shakespeare and performance; theatre and film; theatre making (writing, directing and performing); audience research; dance and movement studies; intercultural performance and theatre history. These areas are supported by library resources which are in most cases very strong. Prospective candidates are invited to discuss their proposed research with members of the centre at any time. The Centre for Drama and Theatre Studies runs a research seminar program in which postgraduate candidates are expected to participate. A shared postgraduate office space is available in the centre. For further information, refer to http://www.arts.monash.edu.au/drama_theatre/pgrad/index.html and the sections on research masters degrees and Doctor of Philosophy.
