Graduate Certificate in Health Informatics

Course code: 2255 + Offered by the Monash Institute of Public Health and Health Services Research, Centre for Health Informatics Education, Monash Medical Centre, and the Faculty of Information Technology, Clayton campus + Full-fee-paying course: $5250 (Australian residents); $8750 (international students)

Aims

This course caters for professionals qualified to be involved in the identification, planning, implementation and use of computer-based information systems in all areas of the healthcare industry, including hospitals and government bodies. On completion, students will be able to envision the potential benefits of using computers and will want to work at the interface of technology and society in the area of healthcare and its delivery.

Entry requirements

Applicants must have a three-year bachelors degree or a diploma with a major in a health-related field. Consideration will also be given to applicants with substantial experience and/or professional relevant qualifications, and who are currently employed in a senior position in a health-related field.

Professional recognition

Australian candidates enrolled in the certificate will be eligible for an appropriate number of points for vocational registration purposes.

Course structure

The course comprises four compulsory units:

Assessment

Assessment consists of essays, assignments, reflective questions and on-line forum discussion and participation.

Advanced standing for previous study

Candidates who have other equivalent qualifications may apply for exemption for certain units in the graduate certificate course. Each case will be considered on its merits.
