This course aims to provide a program of study for transport and traffic professionals wishing to expand their skills in areas of relevance to the planning, design, management and operation of transport and traffic facilities to meet their own personal and professional needs as well as the needs of their clients and the wider community. Graduates are able to bring together knowledge from the many disciplines involved in transport and to communicate effectively with other people in the industry and wider community.
The course satisfies the continuing education requirements of the Institution of Engineers, Australia.
There is no direct entry to the Postgraduate Diploma in Transport and Traffic. Students can articulate from the graduate certificate if they have at least a 65 per cent average, or they can exit from the Master of Transport or Master of Traffic after completing the four core units.
The course is normally completed in two years by off-campus learning (based on two units per semester) with a maximum of four years part-time (based on one unit per semester).
The course will be conducted by off-campus learning part-time. It may be accelerated to a full-time course. The course is equivalent to one EFTSU or 48 credit points.
Where appropriate, students will be encouraged to enrol in the Graduate Certificate of Transport and Traffic in the first instance and then articulate to the Postgraduate Diploma of Transport and Traffic.

Subject to individual assessment, credit may be granted for up to 50 per cent of the total course, on the basis of work of equivalent standard successfully completed at another institution and up to 25 per cent for work completed outside the Engineering faculty at Monash University, but which has not formed part of the work presented for any other degree.
Off-campus learning material in the form of study guides and CD-ROMs are currently being developed and will be made available to all students. Prescribed textbooks will be available from the university bookshop. Students will require access to a computer with email and internet access, either at home or via commercial access points or facilities at local libraries etc.
