Master of Maintenance and Reliability Engineering - eight or 12 units

Course code: 2319 + Gippsland + Attendance is compulsory at two residential schools (one in each of the first two years)

The Master of Maintenance and Reliability Engineering extends the work undertaken in the other programs. Credits (24 credit points) are awarded for studies in the graduate diploma that have been completed to an approved standard.

Entry requirements

There are three entry points for this course:
1. Completion of a Graduate Diploma in Engineering Maintenance Management from this or another university with an average unit grade of 65 per cent or better.
2. Completion of the Graduate Certificate in Reliability Engineering, followed by the Graduate Certificate in Maintenance Management, with an average unit grade overall of 65 per cent or better.

3. Direct entry for graduate engineers holding a four-year honours degree in engineering, or a four-year pass degree plus honours equivalent work experience, or other higher qualifications and experience considered appropriate to the field of study.

A special application for candidature form is required in addition to the normal application form, and can be obtained by email from the program coordinator. The same other requirements apply as for the graduate diploma: employer letter and certified copies of testamurs, as well as access to a suitable computer.

Attendance

Residential schools apply as for the graduate diploma program.

Course length

The course consists of units listed as for the graduate certificates and diploma, plus further studies. The content and duration varies with the entry level as given above. Entry types 1 and 2 are expected to take at least 24 months.

For entry type 1

• GEG8124 Understanding reliability (as for GEG7124, but assessed at masters level)
• GEG8134 Advanced reliability (as for GEG7134, but assessed at masters level)
• GEG7154 Risk engineering
• GEG7144 Reliability applications

For entry type 2

• GEG8054 Machine condition monitoring and fault diagnosis (as for GEG7054, but assessed at masters level)
• GEG8074 Computer applications in terotechnology (as for GEG7074, but assessed at masters level)
• GEG7154 Risk engineering
• GEG7094 Maintenance and reliability engineering project (for applicants holding a graduate diploma from another university. In this case, three other units are required from those available that do not duplicate those already studied).

For entry type 3

Year 1

• Units as for the graduate diploma year one.

Year 2

• GEG7094 Maintenance and reliability engineering project

plus three chosen from:

• GEG8134 Advanced reliability
• GEG7154 Risk engineering
• GEG7034 Quantitative techniques for asset management (or GEG7114 Basic quantitative skills for reliability engineering, but not both)
• GEG8124 Understanding reliability
• GEG8054 Machine condition monitoring and fault diagnosis
• GEG8074 Computer applications in terotechnology

Note: An alternative for Type 3 applicants is available where the units of study best match an applicant's needs. This is to enrol into and complete the Graduate Certificate in Reliability Engineering, then transfer into the masters for the remaining four units. This could require only one residential school attendance, depending on the units chosen.
