Professional recognition of courses

The Bachelor of Engineering courses at all campuses, the engineering double-degree courses at Clayton and Gippsland, the Bachelor of Computer Systems Engineering and the Bachelor of Environmental Engineering are all accredited for the purpose of admission to membership of the Institution of Engineers, Australia (IEAust). The Engineering Accreditation Council of Malaysia has accredited the BE programs offered at the Malaysian campus. The Institution of Chemical Engineers (UK) has accredited the BE in Chemical Engineering, BE in Chemical Engineering/ Bachelor of Laws, BE in Chemical Engineering/Bachelor of Arts, BE in Chemical Engineering/Bachelor of Commerce and BE in Chemical Engineering/Bachelor of Science as equivalent to the MEng degree from a recognised UK university. The Bachelor of Computer Systems Engineering is also accredited by the Australian Computer Society. Of the more recently commenced courses, the Bachelor of Telecommunications Engineering has been designed to meet the accreditation requirements of the IEAust. Graduates of the Bachelor of Technology (Computer Studies) are eligible for Affiliate-Technologist membership of IEAust.

Vacation work/industrial experience

In order to fulfil the requirements of the various degree regulations and of the Institution of Engineers, Australia, all engineering students must complete 12 weeks of approved engineering work experience and submit a report on that work. Such work is normally undertaken in the vacations between second and third years and/or between third and fourth years (but may also be taken between first and second years). Students who have completed all academic requirements for their degrees are not eligible to graduate until this work experience has been completed and a satisfactory report submitted.
