Postgraduate Diploma of Education (general course option)


General information

The Postgraduate Diploma of Education is designed to allow students to pursue their studies at postgraduate level from across a broad range of areas.

Admission requirements

To be eligible for admission to the Postgraduate Diploma of Education, applicants must hold either an approved three-year bachelors degree and an approved fourth year of study, or an approved four-year bachelors degree, or have qualifications or experience considered by the faculty board to be equivalent to, or a satisfactory substitute for, the above awards.

Course outline

The course consists of 48 credit points of study. Students will complete any four 12-point units selected from the units offered within the postgraduate coursework studies programs and approved by the course coordinator.

Students who wish to keep open the option of articulating into the Master of Education degree and complete a research project must complete one research core unit as one of their four units of study.

Length of course/workload required

The Postgraduate Diploma of Education requires a minimum of one year of full-time study and no more than three years of part-time study. Each of the units is one semester in length. The expected number of hours per week for a part-time student is 24.

Where students undertake a series of units that meet the requirements of an approved pathway, this pathway will be shown on their testamur.

Flexible learning

Units within the Postgraduate Diploma of Education are offered in various flexible learning modes. These may include units offered via summer school, winter school, through on-campus and off-campus modes. Some units may be offered on one or more campuses or in more than one mode.

Advanced standing (credits/exemptions)

Applicants contemplating admission to this course may seek formal credit or recognition of prior learning. Applicants should apply for credit/RPL prior to enrolment. The Faculty of Education considers each application on its merit within the context of the faculty guidelines on credit transfer.
