Graduate Diploma of Education (Computers in Education)


General information

The Graduate Diploma of Education (Computers in Education) is a professional course of study for educators from all sectors who wish to gain expertise and experience in computer applications in education. The course enables students to adapt their work to the particular requirements of their situation. As a result the course is able to cater to the full range of educational settings, from kindergarten through primary and post-primary to TAFE and tertiary teaching. The course is a recognised fourth year of study. It may also carry course credit for further study at masters level if students have completed four years of tertiary study at the time of entering the course.

Professional recognition

Completion of the Graduate Diploma of Education (Computers in Education) will enable secondary qualified and registered teachers to satisfy Victorian Department of Education and Training requirements for the secondary unit area of information technology, and as the fourth year of study for three-year trained teachers.

Admission requirements

The normal entry requirement is an approved degree or three-year diploma and a recognised teaching qualification, or other qualifications or experience considered by the faculty to be equivalent to or a satisfactory substitute for the above awards. Course outline

The course comprises 48 points of study. These are normally completed by the student undertaking eight six-credit-point units. Students are required to complete the following units over two years of part-time study by off- campus learning.

Length of course/workload required

The Graduate Diploma of Education (Computers in Education) is equivalent to 48 points of study. The course is normally offered over two years of part-time study by off-campus learning. The expected number of hours per week for a part-time student is 24.

Advanced standing (credits/exemptions)

Applicants contemplating admission to this course may seek formal credit or recognition of prior learning. Applicants should apply for credit/RPL prior to enrolment. The Faculty of Education considers each application on its merit within the context of the faculty guidelines on credit transfer.
