This masters degree is designed for students with a degree in a field other than accounting who wish to obtain a sound introduction to accounting concepts and procedures and is suitable for those who wish to work in public practice, industry or academia.
The course, which is recognised by the professional accounting bodies of CPA
Australia and The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, enables
graduates to affiliate with the professional body of their choice.
The course will encompass studies in financial and managerial accounting,
taxation, business law, auditing and electives chosen from units offered in the
Master of Business (Accounting).
Applicants require a pass degree in a non-accounting discipline or equivalent
qualification from a recognised tertiary institution. Candidates may be
eligible for a maximum of 12 credit exemptions for units considered to be
equivalent to particular units in the course of study (for students who have
completed the Monash University Graduate Diploma in Accounting program). Refer
to the course director for further details.
This is a fee-paying course. Candidates should consult the Department of
Accounting and Finance as to the 2003 course fees. Course fees are set and
reviewed annually and are therefore subject to change.
Completion of this course will enable graduates to meet the academic
requirements for associate membership status with the CPA Australia and
satisfies the entry into the CA program of the Institute of Chartered
Accountants in Australia.
Students who successfully complete the Master of Practising Accounting with an
average grade of credit or above may apply for admission to the Master of
Business (Accounting).
The course consists of 12 core units and four elective units.
Four electives shall be chosen from graduate-level units taught by the Department of Accounting and Finance.
