The National Centre for Australian Studies (NCAS) was established in 1989 as an Australian Research Council Key Centre. In late 1998, the centre became part of the new School of Political and Social Inquiry. NCAS has an active research program in vocationally oriented areas of the humanities and, since 1996, a commitment to programs in publishing and editing at postgraduate level. NCAS staff from the publishing and editing program supervise research masters and doctoral candidates in a variety of publishing-based areas.
