Politics is a field of study, which focuses upon the way in which people live in association, addressing in particular the institutions, practices and cultural meanings of public and private expressions of power. It examines basic questions about the nature of polities and communities, and how they are organised. The politics discipline takes an analytical-critical rather than simply descriptive approach to the area attempting to explain why and how things happen politically.
Supervision of PhD and Master of Arts by research students is available in the following areas of specialisation: global politics, social and political theory, contemporary political cultures, and Australian politics (as well as in international relations, which is offered separately).
