Research degrees

The National Centre for Australian Studies (NCAS) promotes the development of teaching and research in Australian studies through innovative undergraduate courses and postgraduate programs, research projects, public programs and international linkage. Research has been undertaken by centre staff in literary, bibliographical and biographical work, cultural policy, heritage studies, urban transport and trade union history and tourism. Australian studies is an interdisciplinary field of study that interprets and analyses critical aspects of Australian society in order to promote understanding in and involvement with the national and international communities. The centre has also developed vocationally oriented tuition in communications and media studies, tourism and publishing and editing. Centre staff cooperate with other schools within the university in the development of its research and teaching programs. Masters and doctoral supervision is available in these and other areas.

Published works of research have been undertaken by NCAS staff and postgraduate students in such fields as urban history, biography, literary studies, environmental studies and tourism. The centre welcomes the interest of international students and visitors in its programs. For further information, see http://www.arts.monash.edu.au/ncas/ncashome.html.
