This course, offered part-time over three years by the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, provides a sound understanding of the theory and application of the major areas of biostatistics relevant to professional practice. It provides the technical skills graduates require to commence professional careers as biostatisticians and/or to progress to further postgraduate research studies.
Applicants must have a bachelors degree in science, psychology, medicine, pharmacy, nursing or appropriate discipline. In addition, one yearís work experience in a health-related area or an honours degree in mathematics or statistics is required. MPH1041 Introductory biostatistics or equivalent is a prerequisite.
This course is taught in collaboration with seven universities under the Biostatistics Collaboration of Australia. It is comprises of 72 credit points and consists of 11 core units including work placement.
Assessment consists of written assignments, practical exercises, examinations, portfolio and final reports.
