Support services

This is a brief reference list only. More detailed information is provided with post-enrolment mailouts. In mid-January, students are sent an information package. This includes tips for surviving study and contact details as well as information about specialist student support services, how to submit assignments, general administrative matters, and weekend and residential schools.

Centre for Learning and Teaching Support (CeLTS)

Student Support Unit

Student Support Unit (SSU) staff are available via a toll-free number, as well as email and fax, to help with any queries or problems associated with a studentís off-campus studies. Questions typically relate to matters such as receipt of learning materials, submission and return of assignments, exam results and access to faculty staff. For more information, visit the website at www.CeLTS.monash.edu.au.

Off-campus support centres

In Queensland, an agreement between Monash and the Queensland Open Learning Network enables students to use the network's centres. In Western Australia, a similar agreement enables students to use the WA Telecentre Network centres, and in New South Wales students can access the ET Australia Centre located in Gosford.

Orientation

A short video, Getting Started, is available for newly enrolled students to borrow. The video provides an introduction to the services and resources available to off-campus students and includes interviews with students about their experiences of studying off-campus.

Community Services

Counselling

Student counsellors assist with the whole range of life events, including study, personal and family problems that can get in the way of a successful university outcome. They also provide personality profiling and careers testing (for a small fee). For further information, visit the website at www.adm.monash.edu.au/commserv/.

Student financial adviser

An adviser is available to assist with Austudy applications, eligibility queries and appeals, student loans and general financial issues.

Disability Liaison Unit

Monash University is committed to promoting access and equity for all enrolled students who have a disability or long-term medical condition to enable them to participate as independently as possible in educational activities.
Students wishing to apply for services must register with the Disability Liaison Unit (DLU) and provide relevant, current documentation from a professional, qualified practitioner responsible for coordinating treatment or management of their condition.
Students are urged to contact the DLU as soon as they are enrolled to help facilitate support requirements, such as alternative arrangements for examinations.
For further information, visit the DLU website at www.adm.monash.edu.au/sss/pc/equity/dlu/, email dlu@adm.monash.edu.au, telephone (03) 9905 5704, TTY (03) 9905 5391 or fax (03) 9905 5517.

Information Technology Services (computers)

While you are a student at Monash University, you will have at least two computer accounts that you may use to access IT facilities and electronics services - a Novell account and an Authcate account. These accounts will last for the course of your studies and remain active while you are a fully enrolled student. Your Novell account allows you to use the PCs in the computer laboratories on-campus and access software on Monash servers. Your Authcate account enables you to access the pages on the Monash website and other Monash resources that are protected by a password, eg examination results, re-enrolment, library resources, Monash email and much more. For further information, visit the website at www.its.monash.edu.au.
