The undergraduate program


The College of Pharmacy offers the following undergraduate degrees:

Entry requirements

Victorian Certificate of Education
Bachelor of Pharmacy, Bachelor of Pharmacy/Commerce
Prerequisites

A study score of at least 30 in units 3 and 4 of English (any), Chemistry and Mathematical Methods. Biology, although not a formal prerequisite, is highly desirable.

Middle-band selection

Re-ranking will be based on performance in the prerequisite subjects of English, Chemistry and Mathematical Methods. In addition, a positive weighting will be given to those who have successfully completed Biology and/or Physics with a study score of at least 30.
For the information of Victorian VCE students, the first-round ENTER for entry to the pharmacy course in 2001 was 97.15 and for the pharmacy/ commerce course it was 98.45.
Australian residents who have successfully completed equivalent interstate and overseas secondary qualifications in appropriate subjects, or who have completed or partially completed post-secondary studies, will also be considered eligible for admission to a limited number of places in the Bachelor of Pharmacy course.

Bachelor of Formulation Science
Prerequisites

A study score of at least 25 in units 3 and 4 of English (any)and a study score of at least 30 in units 3 and 4 of Chemistry and Mathematical Methods.
For the information of Victorian VCE students, the ENTER for entry to this course in 2001 was 87.40.

Re-ranking will be based on performance in the prerequisite subjects of English, Chemistry and Mathematical Methods. In addition, a positive weighting will be given to those who have successfully completed Biology and/or Physics with a study score of at least 25.

International Baccalaureate
BPharm, BPharm/BCom, BFormSc

For entry in 2002, applicants must fulfil the following basic requirements:

Interstate applicants

Interstate applicants will be evaluated on the basis of their local Year 12 examination results which must include passes in English, Chemistry, and a branch of mathematics.

Overseas applicants

Overseas students studying for the Victorian Certificate of Education in Victoria should apply for entry through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre.
Overseas students undertaking an Australian university foundation studies program, Victorian or interstate tertiary degree studies or interstate Year 12 course, or applicants with overseas qualifications (non-AusAID applicants) who wish to apply for admission to the college may do so by contacting the registrar and requesting an application form.
Overseas students residing overseas applying for scholarships under the Federal Government's AusAID scheme may apply for admission to the college by contacting their local Australian overseas post.
Applications for admission to the college from students residing overseas are only likely to be successful for candidates who have achieved outstanding results in their final year of secondary schooling.

Credit transfer

Successful applicants who have completed or partially completed a post-secondary education course will have their prior study assessed on an individual basis.
Credit, if any, for specified units in the college's courses will be determined in consultation with members of academic staff after due consideration of where and when the applicant's previous study was attempted, the results achieved, and its current relevance to the curriculum of the course applied for. The outcome of these determinations will be conveyed in writing to the persons concerned, usually at the time of enrolment.
In cases of disagreement with any such credit determinations, the persons concerned may appeal in writing to the registrar setting out their reasons for requesting a review and enclosing original or certified copies of documents in support of their claims.

Application procedure

Application forms for admission may be obtained from the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC), 40 Park Street, South Melbourne, Victoria 3205, or requested from VTAC on (03) 9690 7977. The completed forms must be lodged with VTAC prior to the September closing date of the year preceding that in which enrolment is desired.
Intending applicants should note that the Bachelor of Pharmacy is a full-time course run over four years and that the Bachelor of Formulation Science is a full-time course run over three years. The college's academic year runs from late February to December.
