The open access pathway enables students to complete a Monash Bachelor of Arts
entirely from Open Learning units. The range of units is normally restricted to
those offered through Open Learning Australia (OLA). There are no competitive
entry requirements. Students may apply to transfer to the off-campus
distributed learning (distance education) or on-campus Bachelor of Arts after
the successful completion of two units.
Students are required to complete 24 units, including a major, minor, and a
third first-year arts sequence, and achieve no less that a credit result for
each unit. A major sequence must be selected from the following OLA streams,
offered by Monash: history --politics, philosophy, sociology. A minor sequence
can be selected from art history, Australian studies, gender studies, Chinese,
communication and media development, Spanish, or from one of the disciplines
not selected as a major.
