The
Graduate Certificate of Nursing (Gerontics) offered by the School of Nursing
has been specifically designed to assist registered nurses in the practice of

Applicants would normally have a degree in nursing or a related discipline;
registration with the Nurses Board of Victoria (Division 1 or be eligible for
registration); and at least one year of nursing experience. Experience in the
relevant area of practice is desirable.
The course consists of four units, which will normally be completed over a period of one year. The course is offered by off-campus distributed learning or by flexible mode (ie a combination of on-campus and off-campus distributed learning modes). Successful completion of the course requires the study of the following three core units and one elective unit.

Please note: To satisfy the requirements of unit assignments, it is expected that students will network with practitioners and agencies in the field of gerontic nursing. Students need to develop an understanding of all areas of aged care, and should negotiate with other facilities and agencies to spend at least one day in a variety of settings (eg nursing homes and hostels, ACAT team, community option/linkages packages, domiciliary care teams).
Assessment includes assignments and computer assessment.
